Gerrymandering
Last Updated on February 18, 2026 by Hannah Seeley
Gerrymandering is a process that’s common in government elections, but the concept can also apply to membership associations. Gerrymandering involves deliberately manipulating district boundaries to favor a certain outcome. In large associations with regional chapters that rely on delegation, there’s a risk of electoral districts being drawn in ways that don’t fairly represent members. Gerrymandering erodes member trust in elections, which is why it’s so crucial to have neutral oversight committees and transparent processes for establishing electoral boundaries.
