Canvassing

Last Updated on February 18, 2026 by Hannah Seeley

In canvassing, candidates or campaigners reach out to members directly to secure their votes. Depending on your organization, this may involve going door-to-door or reaching out via phone calls, emails, and text messages. The goal of canvassing is to build rapport with eligible members before a vote, but it can also help gauge member sentiment about a particular issue. Done well, canvassing can boost election participation by educating voters. Still, associations should carefully monitor canvassing to ensure it’s ethical and in accordance with election rules.
