An organization, chapter, or committee needs a charter to officially document its mission and responsibilities. As a member organization, you need a charter to determine whether a certain group has decision-making authority. Not only that, but a they also spells out limitations on authority. The clearer you make a charter, the easier it will be to define responsibilities and ensure all voting – even in subgroups or committees – aligns with your bylaws.
