Duty of Care

Last Updated on June 9, 2026 by Hannah Seeley

Board members are the leaders of your organization, and they’re held to a high standard. All board members follow the duty of care, which means they’re required to participate in the organization and make informed decisions. The duty of care prevents board members from making hasty decisions that could harm the organization. As with fiduciary duties, a board member who fails to exercise due care in their role could be impeached.
